BEARS Meeting April 6, 2012
Keven opened the meeting confessing he had left the proposed frequency list at home. He remind the group of weather spotting class which will be April 25th at the fire station, at 7:00 P.M.. It will take the place of the May Bears meeting. The possibility of helping with the Bear Lake Monster Race was discussed.
The minutes from the March meeting were read and approved. Rick motioned to accept the minutes and Gary seconded the motion.
Alan informed us of the demise of the Sedgwig repeater.
Eldon spoke about the repeaters on the following peak groups: Dempsey, Powder Mountain, and Promontory, and Red Spur, Mt. Logan and Pmomontory. It is better to stay on the Red Spur repeater while traveling through the Bear Lake Valley. There are some dead spots in the South end of the Valley while using Mt. Logan which do not occur using Red Spur.
Time was turned to Kyle and Jason from Eden Utah to discuss solar power. Solar panels range from 30 watt to 300 watt. There are two types of systems, battery based using inverters or using the grid and selling power back to the power company. We had a good and lengthy discussion on solar power. The down side of solar power is the batteries. Batteries are large and difficult to dispose of, and need to be changed ever few years. It is possible to get batteries that can last up to 20 years but they are very expensive.
Those present at the meeting were: Rick, Eldon, Jan, Eileen, Gaylen, Wendy, Geoffrey, Steve N., Jocelyn, Keven, Gary, David (and visitor), Bill, Dewayne, Debbie, Alan, Joe, LeAnn and Randy and Shirley Rex.
